  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons salt

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water 110°F
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • For the Sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • For the Toppings:
  • 2 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 20 –25 slices of pepperoni optional
  • 1 cup sautéed mushrooms bell peppers, or onions (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Dough:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour, cornmeal, salt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1–2 hours.
  • Make the Sauce:
  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan. Sauté garlic until fragrant.
  • Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Assemble the Pizza:
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Roll out the dough and press it into a greased deep-dish pan, going up the sides.
  • Layer mozzarella cheese on the dough first.
  • Add desired toppings like pepperoni and veggies.
  • Pour the prepared tomato sauce over the top.
  • Sprinkle Parmesan cheese evenly.
  • Bake and Serve:
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot!

Notes

For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for the best results.
Swap pepperoni for Italian sausage or go fully vegetarian with spinach and mushrooms!
