  • Brush (for melted butter)
  • - Oven
  • Small Bowls (for ingredients like salt, baking soda, and butter)

Ingredients

  • 1 ball of pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup gouda cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 2 cups water for baking soda bath
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt for topping
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.
  • Cut the dough into 6-8 equal portions.
  • Place a generous amount of shredded mozzarella and gouda cheese in the center of each piece of dough.
  • Pinch the dough together around the cheese to seal it tightly, forming a ball or oblong shape.
  • In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in the water to create the baking soda bath.
  • Dip each pretzel into the baking soda bath for a few seconds, then place it onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  • Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Be sure to seal the dough tightly to avoid cheese leakage during baking.
For the best results, use fresh dough and quality cheese.
You can store leftover pretzels in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze them for up to 2 months.
Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese, such as cheddar or pepper jack, for unique flavor variations.
