Ingredients
  

  • For the apple filling:
  • 8 medium Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ cup water
  • For the topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 8 tablespoons 1 stick salted butter, melted

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix apple slices with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Spread the apples evenly in the baking dish. Pour ½ cup of water over the apples.
  • In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until crumbly.
  • Spread the topping evenly over the apples, ensuring full coverage.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crisp.
  • Let cool slightly and serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

For a more complex flavor, mix different apple varieties.
